The battle system is different from other MMO where as no longer do your attacks have a chance to miss, or your defences a chance to dodge, so if you want to hit a creature with an attack you need to be targeting it. To dodge, jump out of the way. Want to land a critical hit, find a way to get behind your enemy and stab them in the back.

Also, replacing the traditional action bar it uses a more unusual variety of skill selector, the Skill Deck. It’s essentially a rotating bar of skills. To begin with, it’s only got two faces, each with three skills on it, but it rapidly increases in size and complexity. At heart, the idea is that you set up skill rotations on the Deck before entering battle. You can’t access the next face of the Deck until you’ve used a skill from the face you’re presently on, so in theory you could The Chronicles of Spellborn Gold set up a rotation of buffs and debuffs, fire them all off, and then move to the next slot to rotate through standard attacks, before perhaps switching back to your debuffs.
